Current Job Description Brad Monterio is Managing Director of Colcomgroup, Inc., a global consulting and marketing services firm based in New York. He advises organizations on growing market share, opening new markets, developing new revenue streams, driving market adoption, and sourcing strategic partners through business development, marketing, communications, thought leadership and stakeholder engagement. Brad counsels clients in the capital markets/financial services, financial technology, corporate disclosure, XBRL, ESG/integrated/sustainability/CSR reporting, data analytics, accountancy and investment advisory sectors. He advises corporations, professional associations, standard setters, accountancy bodies, technology vendors, consulting firms and others.
In his role at Colcomgroup, Brad has served as an Executive Advisor in business development to WebFilings, LLC, a global leader in XBRL-enabled, collaborative, Cloud-based corporate reporting solutions, as well as consultant to EDGAR Online (now part of RR Donnelley), 28msec, Capital Cube (formerly AnalytixInsight), XBRL International, Fujitsu, EZ-XBRL Solutions, ACL, Microsoft, Ernst & Young, Revlon, Florida Institute of CPAs, and Accountability. He currently counsels other sector-leading organizations.
Brad serves in several volunteer roles:
•A Director of the Global Board of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), a member of the IMA Board’s Planning & Development Committee, Chair of the IMA Technology Solutions & Practices Committee, and member of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society (SCMS).
•A Director of the Global Board of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS).
•A member of the Global Advisory Council for Cornerstone Capital Group, the world’s first investment bank/investment advisory firm focused on sustainable investing.
•A direct member of XBRL International, Inc. (XII), Vice Chair of the XII Best Practices Board (BPB) and member of both the Taxonomy Architecture Guidance Task Force and the Implementation Guidance Task Force of the BPB.
He is a former Organizational Stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and previous member of the XBRL Taxonomy Working Group of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
Brad is a former investment banker serving middle market companies through private placement and capital introduction advisory services and previously held FINRA series 63, 7 and 79 securities licenses. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he served in marketing and product development positions at Chase Manhattan Bank in international private banking, investment products and retail banking. Brad also held a senior marketing and product development position in the home furnishings and giftware manufacturing sector, and directed a proprietary marketing consulting firm.
Brad regularly speaks/writes on transparency, integrated reporting, XBRL, ESG/sustainability, marketing and communications issues and is an award-winning artist and product designer. His articles have appeared in Accountancy, the Accountant, AccountingWeb.com, Business Finance, IMA’s Strategic Finance, Corporate Responsibility, CalCPA’s California CPA, Corporate Compliance Insights, XBRL International’s iBR, and other media outlets and blogs.
Along with Kofi Annan, Robert Zoellick and Duncan Niederauer, he is a co-author of “Trust Meltdown: The Financial Industry Needs a Fundamental Restart.” He also co-authored “Bringing Order to the Chaos: Integrating Sustainability Reporting Frameworks and Financial Reporting into One Report with XBRL” for Harvard Business School’s first eBook, “The Landscape of Integrated Reporting.”
Mr. Monterio received his Bachelor Degree from Dartmouth College in 1988 with a major in English. He speaks French and enjoys photography and travel.
Professional Goals To help organizations evolve from paper and PDF sustainability (e.g., GRI, CDP) and integrated reports to fully digital, consumable electronic reports and data streams so that users of the information (e.g., analysts, investors, regulators etc) can easily locate, consume, and analyze the data for more -informed quality decision making.
