Video > Thinking Cities, Networked Society - Ericsson

Public By
For the first time in history, 52 percent of the world’s population lives in cities.

There are 200,000 new urban dwellers every day and this trend is accelerating; especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America. By 2050, six billion people will live in cities, putting a phenomenal strain on resources and materials.

However, as Geoffrey West – physicist and professor at Santa Fe Institute – shares in the following short film, Thinking Cities, while the problems are being generated in cities, so too are the solutions...

This film covers various topics, such as the science of cities, the talking city, the Trash Track project, the social city and the smart city. It shows how ICT is enabling us to deliver new levels of value in innovative ways – which is a new cultural phenomenon.

As {{LNK|Green Building Elements|http://greenbuildingelements.com/2012/02/26/thinking-cities-documentary-from-ericsson/}} explains, the highlighted points discussed in the movie are:

>The importance of cities
>Cities future role in sustainability with the “Smart City”
>Attention to the use and participation in social media networks
>Information/communication intelligence
>Where problems and solutions are generated
