Puma gains reaccreditation by the FLA

Puma, world distributor of “Sportlifestyle” clothing and accessories, gained its reaccreditation by the Fair Labor Association (FLA). Puma, which has been a FLA member since 2004, underwent an “extensive performance review” consisting of more than 60 external and unannounced audits in 6 years, entirely realized by third party organizations. Being accredited means that the company “fully complies with the FLA Code of Conduct” which signifies there is “strictly no child labor, harassment or abuse in any of Puma’s suppliers’ factories”.




Puma’s program to monitor suppliers for labor-standards, called {{LNK|puma.safe|http://safe.puma.com/us/en/?}}, fully complies with the FLA’s Code of Conduct and regulations. First accredited in 2007, the company has been reaccredited for its, “ continued adherence”, to the Code, which is based on {{LNK|International Labour Organization (ILO)|http://www.ilo.org/global/lang--en/index.htm}} standards. It requires affiliated companies to follow these ethical and social rules among their supply chains:

1. Ban on forced labor
2. Ban on child labor
3. Ban on harassment or abuse
4. Ban on discrimination
5. Obligation to provide a safe and healthy working environment
6. Freedom of association and collective bargaining
7. Obligation to pay employees, as a floor, at least the minimum wage required by local law
8. Respect for work hours (less than 48 hours per week and 12 hours of overtime)
9. Respect of one day overtime compensation per week

The results of the 60 unannounced audits realized on Puma’s suppliers’ factories since 2004, as well as Puma’s suppliers list and formal third party complaint procedure, are available on {{LNK|FLA’s website|http://www.fairlabor.org/}}, in accordance with the company’s “aim of transparency”.

Auret van Heerden, FLA’s President and CEO, stated: “We review the affiliated company’s compliance activities from Headquarters all the way down to the factory level to ensure that they are meeting the ten Obligations of Companies set out in the FLA Charter. PUMA has met or exceeded those standards and has taken many additional steps to enhance its program”.

Puma is also very involved in the environmental protection and took action to eliminate PVC, chromium and nickel among its production, reduce the use of organic solvents and minimize the noise level in factories. {{LNK|To learn more about Puma|http://www.puma.com/}}
