The Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council brings together visionary professionals from purchasing organizations, suppliers, government, standards bodies and NGOs to collaborate on solving the hardest problems in sustainable procurement. The Council’s members will empower the profession and practice of procurement to lead the sustainability transformation of our economy by working together - and with other partners - to supply purchasers with the best available hot spot and product-specific guidance in a manner that prioritizes high-impact areas of spending and that supports procurement processes commonly found in the public and private sector. The Sustainable Purchasing Council is modeled on the US Green Building Council, and a rating system for recognizing leadership in sustainable procurement has been proposed. The founding members of the Council (on 5/22) include Office Depot, FedEx, Ecolab, SciQuest, DEKRA, CarbonNeutral Company, FairTrade USA, GreenCircle Certified, US Department of Energy, City of Washington DC, Arizona State University, Michigan State University, American University, Emory University.
