Mining is the extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth, from an ore body, vein or (coal) seam. Any material that cannot be grown through agricultural processes, or created artificially in a laboratory or factory, is usually mined. The vital concept is that of sustainable development, which requires environment and development issues to be addressed in an integrated manner in order to meet the various needs of the present, and to take into account the needs of future generations.
